New to drag pageantry? Here’s the tea:

Early last year, the Miss Drag SA Organisation selected 50 semi-finalists from all nine provinces to compete in the Miss Drag South Africa 2020 pageant – the semi-finalists were then narrowed down to a top 10, and later top 15.

ICYMI: Siv Ngesi’s sickening drag transformation!

Semi-finalists were then posed with different challenges, including a Drag With A Purpose project, which saw the semi-finalists creatively address their community’s needs.

Miss Drag South Africa is much more than just a beauty pageant or modelling competition, as each finalist has to initiate a ‘Drag with a Purpose’ project to advocate for the advancement of LGBTIQA+ rights and drag culture, as well as serve as agents for change and uplift their communities by serving as positive role models.

Initially, the Miss Drag South Africa 2020 show was scheduled to take place in September 2020 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. However, due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, the event was postponed, and later the director decided to host a virtual show instead.

Miss Drag South Africa will take place virtually on 27 March 2021, and tickets can be purchased on Quicket. The pre-recorded show will show the finalists in their homes and communities and will run for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Tickets cost R60 and profits will be shared with finalists to aid in their respective community projects.

…And may the best drag queen win!
